$150 per rough opening

Must be ENERGY STAR® certified

Must be installed in an existing rough opening

Reference: Participant's Guide
  • The amount is calculated per rough opening. For example, a bay window composed of a group of three windows will qualify only for one amount of $150, since the windows are installed in the same rough opening.
  • Replacement of a window pane or frame, or of a door without the frame, does not qualify for financial assistance.
  • Choosing ENERGY STAR certified doors and windows is as important as proper installation toqualify for a grant. Make sure that the new doors and windows are installed tightly in the openings so that your EnerGuide rating improves after your retrofits.
  • Minor retrofits (for example, changing only a few windows in the basement) may not be sufficient to improve the EnerGuide rating of your home. It must have improved after the retrofits to qualify for a grant. Discuss it further with your energy advisor.

Multiple-unit housing

Do you own a duplex, triplex or multiple-unit residential building? Financial assistance granted under the Rénoclimat program will be higher than for single-family homes. Consult the page Amounts for multiple-unit housing.

Modification of ENERGY STAR criteria for residential doors and windows

On January 1, 2020, Natural Resources Canada introduced new ENERGY STAR certification criteria for residential doors and windows. See the Natural Resources Canada website for full details.

Certification is no longer attributed based on the climate zone in which the dwelling is located. Rather, it will be attributed for Canada as a whole. All ENERGY STAR certified models manufactured after this date are therefore eligible for Rénoclimat financial assistance.

Note: If you install doors or windows manufactured before January 1, 2020, they must be ENERGY STAR-certified for the climate zone in which your dwelling is located.

Keep the ENERGY STAR sticker and your invoices to ensure your eligibility.
