Energy Evaluation
During an energy evaluation, a Rénoclimat energy advisor will assess your home. He will perform an analysis to check all of its energy efficiency aspects.
He will determine the EnerGuide rating of your home by doing a blower door test, give you advice on the retrofits you’re planning to do and afterwards, send you a detailed renovation upgrade report.
Evaluation fees
In the last few years, the Rénoclimat program had offered free energy evaluations before and after the retrofits, including subsequent evaluations. The free evaluation services were introduced during the pandemic as a special and temporary measure.
As of November 1, 2024, participants are still able to benefit from energy evaluation services and personalized advice at a rate lower than the actual value, but they now have to cover part of the costs:
- The pre-retrofit energy evaluation costs $150, plus applicable taxes. Following the completion of eligible retrofits, as long as the conditions for receiving a grant are met, the $150 amount will be refunded. Therefore, your first energy evaluation will have only cost you $22.46 (the amount of taxes).
- The post-retrofit energy evaluation remains free.
- All subsequent post-retrofit energy evaluations (third visit and beyond), or updates to participation files for partner initiatives, cost $150, plus applicable taxes. This amount is non-refundable.
These fees apply to all types of dwellings and are payable directly to the service organization conducting the home assessment.

Cancellation fees of $25 may apply if you cancel your appointment less than 24 hours in advance. Travel fees of $75 may also apply if the energy evaluation cannot be conducted (for example, if the property is deemed ineligible on-site, if you are not present at the scheduled date and time, etc.).
