Changes to the Rénoclimat program starting from May 1, 2024
To continue to support Quebecers engaged in energy-efficient home renovations, offerings under the Rénoclimat program are now focused more extensively on retrofits carried out on the building envelope while continuing to rely on the energy efficiency advice of energy advisors.
The following changes, applicable only for post-retrofit energy evaluations conducted on or after May 1, 2024, recently came into effect:
- The grant amounts are increased for home insulation and airtightness retrofits, the replacement of doors and windows and the installation of mechanical systems.
- The grant multiplier factor is increased for insulation retrofits in multi-unit residential buildings.
- The installation of geothermal domestic heating supply systems and air source heat pumps are no longer eligible for Rénoclimat grants since September 30, 2024.
Installation of heat pump or geothermal system
The Gouvernment du Québec will keep supporting homeowners who wish to install a heat pump or geothermal system through Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert program.
Energy evaluation fees
As of November 1, 2024, the following changes are in effect:
- Pre-retrofit energy evaluation — A fee of $150, plus applicable taxes, applies for the first pre-retrofit energy evaluation. Following the completion of eligible retrofits, as long as the conditions for receiving a grant are met, this fee of $150 (without the taxes) will be refunded together with the payment of the grant.
- Post-retrofit energy evaluation — The first post-retrofit energy evaluation remains free.
- Subsequent energy evaluation — A fee of $150, plus applicable taxes, applies for all subsequent energy evaluations (third visit and beyond), or updates to participation files for partner initiatives. This amount is non-refundable.
These fees apply to all types of dwellings and are payable directly to the service organization conducting the home assessment.
Eligible retrofits and grant amounts under the Rénoclimat program
Note for multi-unit residential buildings: The grant amount for insulation retrofits is increased by applying the multiplier factor corresponding to the number of units in the dwelling.
- The current grant amounts are applicable if your post-retrofit energy evaluation was conducted after May 1, 2024.
- If your post-retrofit energy evaluation was conducted before May 1, 2024, the amount to be paid will be calculated based on the previous grant amounts
