A heat pump can be used as both a heating and an air conditioning system. In winter, a heat pump consumes less energy to produce heat than other heating systems. However, below a certain temperature or if the system is undersized, another heating system has to take over because the heat pump alone will not be enough.
Merchants often tend to suggest minimum sizing, which is suitable for air conditioning, but not for heating. To obtain the best possible performance from your new heat pump, make sure that it is properly sized, i.e. powerful enough to meet your heating needs. And remember to make sure that it meets the eligibility criteria of the Chauffez vert program!
The dismantling and installation work must be carried out by one or more qualified contractors to be eligible for financial assistance from the Chauffez vert program.
Before the work is carried out, you will need to choose a contractor (who has a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, in accordance with current renovation regulations).
Here are some useful links.
The contractor you hire must hold a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec and the licence must include the category and sub-category of the type of work that will be carried out in your home.
