Financial assistance
The list of eligible types of work and equipment is subject to change. Check this list again before carrying out the work to make sure that it is eligible.
Under the Chauffez vert program, financial assistance may be provided for the following types of work:
Replacement of an oil or propane central heating system with a system powered by an eligible renewable energy, such as electricity
Work involving a complete dismantling of the fossil fuel central heating system (furnace or boiler) and the removal of the tank (oil or propane) may be eligible for financial assistance from the Chauffez vert program. The system may be a hot air or a hot water circulation system. Systems powered by natural gas are not eligible.
Conditions
- The work must involve installing new equipment for a heating system powered by electricity or a combination of renewable energies.
- The new equipment must meet the energy needs that were covered by the dismantled system(s).
- The system must be a source of heat for the home before the replacement work begins.
- In the case of a building with multiple units, the system must be a source of heat for at least one unit.
- Important - The dismantling and installation work must be carried out by one or more qualified contractors who hold appropriate RBQ licences.

Types of single family homes | Heating oil | Propane |
---|---|---|
Single family home | $1,275 | $850 |
Semi-detached or row home | $875 | $650 |
Mobile home | $1,075 | $600 |

Residential building with multiple units | $550 × number of eligible units* | $225 × number of eligible units* |
* A unit is considered eligible if its heating system is the fossil fuel system that is dismantled.
The renewable energies that may be used
The renewable energies that may be used to power the new equipment are:
- electricity*
- biomass
- geothermal energy
- wind energy
- solar energy
- wood
- aerothermal energy (heat pump)*
* Provided the home is supplied with electricity from Hydro-Québec’s main grid. This grid actually provides hydroelectricity, which is a renewable energy. Homes that are located off the grid or are supplied by autonomous electrical systems do not meet the eligibility conditions.
Replacement of an oil or propane water heater by a water heater powered by an eligible renewable energy, such as electricity
To obtain financial assistance, participants are required to replace the water heater at the same time as they replace their oil or propane central heating system in view of a complete conversion of their systems to electrical or another renewable energy. Water heaters powered by natural gas are not eligible.
Conditions
- To be eligible for financial assistance, the work must involve completely dismantling a water heater that uses the same fuel as the central heating system.
- The work must also include installing new water heating equipment powered by electricity or a combination of renewable energies.
- The new equipment must meet the energy needs that were covered by the dismantled system(s).
- The domestic hot water used in the home must be provided entirely by a fossil fuel water heater.
- In the case of a building with multiple units, the system must provide all hot water to at least one unit.
