To continue to support Quebecers engaged in energy-efficient home renovations, offerings under the Rénoclimat program will focus more extensively on retrofits carried out on the building envelope while continuing to rely on the energy efficiency advice of energy advisors. The following changes  came into effect on May 1, 2024 :

  • The grant amounts  are increased for home insulation and airtightness retrofits, the replacement of doors and windows and the installation of mechanical systems.
  • The grant multiplier factor is increased for insulation retrofits in multi-unit residential buildings.
  • The installation of geothermal domestic heating supply systems and air-source heat pumps are no longer eligible for  Rénoclimat grants.

A transition phase  is currently underway for thos who joined the program before May 1, 2024; they have until September 30, 2024 to complete both the installation of their heating system and the post-retrofit energy evaluation in order to get a grant.

The Government of Québec will keep supporting homeowners who wish to install a heat-pump or geothermal system through Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert program.

Energy evaluation fees

All energy evaluations (pre-retrofit, post-retrofit and subsequent) are currently free of charge.

However, at some point during the current year 2024, the following changes will be in effect:

  • A fee of 150$, plus applicable taxes, will apply for the first pre-retrofit energy evaluation. Homeowners will have to pay the energy advisor during the home assessment.
  • The fee for the pre-retrofit energy evaluation will be reimbursed if you are eligible for financial assistance upon the completion of your project. Therefore, your pre-retrofit energy evaluation will have only cost 22,46$.
  • The first post-retrofit energy evaluation will remain free
  • Each subsequent energy evaluation will cost 150$, plus applicable taxes.

The Rénoclimat program will continue to offer tailor-made energy efficiency consulting services and financial assistance to support homeowners in carrying out retrofits improving their home’s energy efficiency.

Eligible retrofits and grant amounts

Note for multi-unit residential buildings: The grant amount for insulation retrofits is increased by applying the multiplier factor corresponding to the number of units in the dwelling.
