Improvements in the Residential sector

Up to $3,000 more to see your renovation projects through.

To support and encourage energy-efficient construction and renovation projects in Quebec, some permanent new measures have been introduced in the Chauffez vert, Rénoclimat and Novoclimat programs, in addition to other temporary yet extraordinary improvements.

Do you have a renovation or construction project for your house or multi-unit building? Now is the time to carry it out!

Rénoclimat program

The Rénoclimat program starts with a visit from an advisor who performs an energy evaluation of your home. The advisor’s evaluation report will guide you in your home renovation work to improve its energy performance.

You must register for the program and be visited by the advisor before beginning the work.

Temporary measures – Effective May 11 to December 31, 2020

  • All home energy evaluation visits are free of charge.
  • All the additional financial assistance listed below will be granted to participants who receive or request their post-work energy evaluation by December 31, 2020. Eligible work must therefore be carried out and completed before requesting a visit for a post-work energy evaluation. If your work is planned for after December 31, 2020, you will not be eligible for the additional financial assistance. As soon as the service organization receives your request for a post-work energy evaluation, it will assign you a visit date as soon as possible, taking into consideration the appointments already planned with other participants.
    • An additional $1,000 in financial assistance will be granted for projects eligible for at least $350 in financial assistance for energy improvements carried out, with the exception of the installation of a heat pump. Owners may obtain this additional assistance for each home concerned by their participation in the program.
    • An additional $1,000 of financial assistance is granted per home (and not per number of appliances) when a recognized low temperature heat pump, a geothermal system or a geothermal heat pump is installed. Owners may obtain this additional assistance for each home concerned by their participation in the program.

Low temperature heat pumps

  • A low temperature heat pump can heat a home even when the outside temperature is very low. It is an excellent heating solution that is perfectly suited to Quebec's wintry climate.
  • To qualify for this additional assistance, the model must appear on two lists: the list of ENERGY STAR® certified products and the NEEP list.
  • This additional assistance is granted on top of the $650 amount normally offered for ENERGY STAR certified heat pumps.

Geothermal systems

  • To qualify for this additional assistance, the system you install must comply with the CSA C448.2-0 standard.
  • This additional amount is granted on top of the $5,365 amount usually offered.

Geothermal heat pumps

  • To qualify for this additional assistance, the model you replace must comply with the CSA C448.2-02 standard.
  • This additional amount is granted on top of the $2,150 amount usually offered.

Permanent measures – Effective for everyone

Consult the Rénoclimat program section for all the details.

Chauffez vert program

The Chauffez vert program lets you obtain rapid financial assistance when you replace your old oil or propane heating system with a new electric system or when you install or replace an energy-efficient heat pump.

You can register on line, after the work has been completed, by submitting your photos, invoices and other required supporting documents.

Permanent measures – Effective for all work started on or after May 11, 2020

  • An additional $650 of financial assistance when you install or replace an ENERGY STAR certified heat pump
    • This assistance is offered per house or per unit
    • This assistance applies to both new and existing homes.

Consult the Chauffez vert program section for all the details.

Temporary measures – For work done from May 11 to December 31, 2020

The following additional amounts of assistance will be granted to participants who submit an application for financial assistance by no later than December 31, 2020.

  • An additional $1,000 of financial assistance will be granted when you replace an oil or propane heating system with an electric system.
    • Owners may obtain this additional assistance for each home concerned by their participation in the program.
    • This additional assistance is granted on top of the financial assistance normally offered in the program.
  • An additional $1,000 of financial assistance will be granted when you install a recognized low temperature heat pump. A low temperature heat pump can heat a home even when the outside temperature is very low. It is an excellent heating solution that is perfectly suited to Quebec's wintry climate.
    • To qualify for this additional assistance, the model must appear on two lists: the list of ENERGY STAR certified products and the NEEP list.
    • The $1,000 of additional assistance is granted only once per home (and not per number of appliances installed). Owners may obtain this additional assistance for each home concerned by their participation in the program.
    • This additional assistance is granted on top of the $650 amount now offered for ENERGY STAR certified heat pumps.

Novoclimat program

The program offers financial assistance to buyers, contractors or developers, depending on the program component, who build a new highly energy-efficient Novoclimat-certified home.

Permanent measure – Effective June 15, 2020

For houses and small multiple-unit buildings (SMBs), a $650 amount will now be offered per house (paid to the buyer) or per unit (paid to the developer) when an ENERGY STAR certified heat pump is installed.

Consult the program section for all the details:

Temporary measures – Effective November 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020

An additional $1,000 of financial assistance will be granted to contractors for each Novoclimat home project registered on or after November 1, 2019 and started before December 31, 2020.

An additional $200 of financial assistance per unit will be granted to developers for each Small Multiple-Unit Building (SMB) project or Big Multiple-Unit Building (BMB) project registered on or after November 1, 2019 and started before December 31, 2020.

Temporary measures – Effective June 15 to December 31, 2020

  • An additional $1,000 of financial assistance will be granted when you install a recognized low temperature heat pump. A low temperature heat pump can heat a home even when the outside temperature is very low. It is an excellent heating solution that is perfectly suited to Quebec's wintry climate.
    • For houses, the additional amount of $1,000 is granted to the first home owner.
    • For SMBs, the additional amount of $1,000 is granted to the project developer.

In both cases, the $1,000 of additional assistance is granted only once per home (and not per number of appliances installed).

To qualify for this additional assistance, the heat pump model must appear on two lists: the list of ENERGY STAR certified products and the NEEP list.
